String or Plastic Ring

I purchased a JLY22 on ebay last month and I didn't even notice until now that she came with a plastic ring around her neckline instead of the long strings. Does this mean that she has been to the AG hospital? Does AG sell any dolls with the plastic ring? First of all I am not happy with the seller because a piece of the dolls outfit was missing and the seller never returned my emails. NOW I find out the doll has a plastic ring, which was never mentioned in the listing! THANK you! [img]mad.gif[/img]

I've bought like 13 Mattel dolls in the last year directly from AG and I've never seen the plastic tie- just the strings. HTH

I am certain they sold new dolls with plastic rings. Some people like them (no messy strings to get in the way), but if you don't, I know some people here know where to find replacement cording. (Even a shoelace will do in a pinch!) And I may be able to explain to you how to undo the plastic ring without even cutting it, if you decide to go that route.

(I will admit that I prefer neck strings, but I KNOW some dolls have come new with plastic rings! Sorry the doll was missing a piece of the outfit, but the plastic ring isn't something that would need to be mentioned in a listing since she almost certainly came that way from AG.)

My sister got a Kirsten directley from AG, and she came with a plastic neck tie. I believe they where testing out the neck ties at one time, but no one liked them, so they are usually just doing the neck strings now, I believe.

Recently, I was told that they are testing them out to see how people felt about them. I guess they tend to be a but sturdier.

I sent my Marisol to the hospital for a head replacement since I kept having Quality Control issues with her and they put a plastic tie around her neck after I asked them not to. So I just recently sent her back. We shall she what she comes back with now. [img]smile.gif[/img] I just hope that they don't tuck the strings in.

CS was VERY nice about it though. I had to pay to send her there, but they replaced the tie for free.

Coconut, you shouldn't have had to pay to send your doll to the hospital if it was their fault. Next time you can request a prepaid shipping label be sent to you.

I have both, the nylon tiewrap and the string, on different dolls. Gotz and AG both used string, but AG seems to be trying out the tiewraps. Each form of securing the head has advantages and disadvantages:

I agree with Peanut Butter. The neck strings make them seem less mass manufactured--even though I know they are. They neckstrings scream AG. I couldn't imagine the dolls without them. Not to mention, the neck strings help you care for your doll. Replacing stuffing and tightening limbs is a lot harder to do with a plastic tie.

If you have a plastic ring you need to remove, try fiddling around with the little boxy area with a little pin or a straightened paper clip. There is a tiny little latch that you can press, and if you press it down, it's kind of like the tongue of a belt and you can hold it down and then pull the clicking part out. I can't promise it works for AGs but it did work on a non-AG doll of Sakurako's.

Thank you for all your "wisdom". The doll probably did come with the plastic ring, but I have to agree that it just isn't AG without the string. ALSO the doll is really hard and I am not used to the hard plastic. I have mostly PM's, though I do have Kit, Nellie, and Elizabeth. BUT they don't seem this "hard". THANKS again.
